In 2007, the internationally known Hagenbeck Zoo celebrated its 100-year anniversary. On the occasion of this anniversary, the Hamburg zoo – with its rich tradition – was extended by several attractions. The new buildings include an events and family hotel, which was built to the detailed design produced by pbr Planungsbüro Rohling AG. Building work for Parkhotel Hagenbeck was completed at the beginning of 2009.
The visual appearance of the five-storey Parkhotel with its colonial/exotic style replicates features of the Nepalese temple at the main gate of the zoo, and also refers back to African and Asian style elements. The interior design is dominated by warm colours, matching details and wood. A total of 160 rooms were created, many with a balcony in timber construction from where there is a direct view into the zoo.
The result of this considerable investment worth EUR 24.2 million is a hotel in the 3- to 4-star range with comprehensive services. Visitors can use a day centre with a 400 m² ballroom, and a restaurant, as well as a wellness area in the attic floor and parking spaces in the basement.
